I still don't have a decent picture of Imagica.  In this photo, she's the bay behind the sorrel.  The sorrel is her dam, Twiggy.

Something in the other pasture has Prince's attention.  Probably one of the mares.  For a gelding, he tends to think he's got something to offer them.

"Prince," is an 8-year-old Appaloosa gelding.  He was sired by a black & white leopard Appaloosa on the mare that's in the background of this picture.  She's a snowflake Appy.  Prince is almost a simple strawberry roan.  He does have two spots on his rump, striping on a hoof that has no white mark, pronounced white sclera, and mottled skin on his nose.

For a true white, it must have a white coat on pink skin.  Many horses that look white are either a kind of grey, a perlino (not covered in DragonRealms) or a cremello (also not covered in DragonRealms).

After a post on the DR boards regarding RL rarity of true white horses, I thought I'd elaborate.

There are two genetic conditions that will kill a horse that are tied to true-white coloring.  The first, Lethal Dominant White Syndrome, will kill the embryo in utero.  There are no known cases of a foal posessing homozygous dominant white genes (both parents contributing a dominant white gene) and the foal surviving.  This could possibly be used by GMs, or GMs could simply say that the condition doesn't exist in Elanthia.

The second can't exist in Elanthia at the moment, unless there's a color pattern on Elanthian horses that I haven't seen yet.  It's called Overo Lethal White Syndrome, and is the result of two Overo-marked Paint horses (particularly the "frame" Overo variety) contributing the faulty gene.  It isn't that the horse is white that kills it, it's that the gene causing a structural defect in its intestines has a side-effect of making the foal solid-white.

Now, two Overos can breed quite successfully, and can even produce a healthy white foal.  "Maximum" patterns result when the white splotching on the paint takes up its entire body.  The Overo syndrome gets more attention in the real world.  If I had to guess, it would be because the foal is born live, but usually dies within 12 hours, 48 at most.  This is most traumatic to the mare and the breeder.

Some breeders will automatically euthanize an all-white foal from 2 Overos.  My personal opinion is that this is irresponsible.  Others will hold their breath and pray.  Since the responsible gene has been identified, many breeders are getting their Overo paints' genes typed to know which horses are carriers of the lethal genetic code.

There is one other genetic code that is lethal if homozygous.  Foals that carry homozygous roan genetic coding die in utero.

Basically a dun factor dilution on a chestnut horse.  As with the classic dun, the horse will have a prominent dorsal stripe, and barring on the legs, withers and/or ears.
